Corte Guastalla Vecchia is one of the most valuable rural courts located in the Low Garda Region. a compound between Mantova and Verona, characterized by an incredible lush landscape of incomparable beauty.
Built on a pre-existing early medieval building, this late 16th century Manor House was a significant and prestigious building for its strategic position, as shown on the watercolour map in the Museum Miniscalchi Erizzo.
The Spolverini Family tied their fortunes to this property for centuries: after purchasing hereditary titles from nobles Dal Verme during the Rule Scaligera, the already wealthy and powerful family also achieved some other important rights during the Rule of Verona.
Guastalla Vecchia was owned by Giangerolamo Spolverini Giovanbattista as shown in a bill of Valuation dated 1745: “A possession of 180 C. called Guastalla Vecchia, with C. 40 grassland for farm use which makes D. 272 for every farmer”.
When the opulent Spolverini Family became extinct, Guastalla Vecchia was inherited by Teresa Muselli (Dal Verme Spolverini Isotta’s daughter) and, then by Marianna Saibante, Count Francesco Giusti Del Giardino’s wife.
On 11 March 1863, the petition n° 2 by Decree as hereditary award, old Guastalla property is conveyed to Giusti Conte Julio, with annexed the nearby Old Court House of new Guastalla, part of the Spolverini Family’s assets.
After those episodes, Guastalla Vecchia had been converted in a farm for years. In 2002, Franco Tommasi and Orietta found out this treasure among the hills of Verona and decided to restore and convert it into a Relias, entrusting the restoration and new design works to archirtect Alberto Pontiroli.
In 2006, after 4 long years, Corte Guastalla returned to its former glory.
