Orange Plumcake: A Simple and Delicious Recipe

Difficulty Level: Easy

Preparation Time: 30 minutes

Servings: 6

Ingredients:

  • 250g of flour
  • 250g of sugar
  • 170g of butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 50ml of milk
  • Juice and grated zest of one organic orange
  • 1 packet of baking powder

Procedure:

  1. Begin by grating the zest of an organic orange and place it in a large bowl.
  2. Add the butter (or margarine) at room temperature, sugar, and eggs to the orange zest. Mix until you get a smooth mixture.
  3. Gently incorporate the milk and orange juice, mixing carefully.
  4. Sift the flour and baking powder, add them to the mixture, and blend all the ingredients until the mixture is smooth and lump-free.
  5. Pour the batter into a previously buttered and floured plumcake mold.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 170°C (338°F) for about 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the plumcake comes out clean.
  7. Let it cool before unmolding and serving.

Grandma’s Tip:

To make your plumcake even more special, you can enrich it with dried fruit or candied fruit. Before adding them to the batter, mix them in a paper bag with a little flour, then sift them to remove the excess flour. This trick prevents the fruit from sinking to the bottom of the mold during baking. At Relais Corte Guastalla, we love to experiment: for Annette and Steven P., our dear friends and regular guests, I prepare an irresistible savory version with cheese and bacon. A real treat for the palate!
